With 26 show homes in the Spring 2017 Parade of Homes, The Neighbourhoods of Bridgwater is a not-to-be-missed destination for those looking to see the latest in Winnipeg housing trends.

The Neighbourhoods of Bridgwater – consisting of Lakes, Forest, Trails and Centre – is a new community in Winnipeg’s southwest corner. Its proximity to The University of Manitoba, Seasons shopping centre and Winnipeg’s perimeter highway will make potential buyers visit, and the stunning homes, abundance of green space and many amenities will make them stay.

Sophisticated homes with a traditional feel

“Bridgwater has an extremely high standard when it comes to architectural guidelines for all the housing and commercial development within the neighbourhoods,” says Dwayne Rewniak, executive director, housing delivery/land development with Manitoba Housing. “Visitors will notice a high level of detail and articulation with the show homes. There is a high degree of variation and uniqueness that set the homes apart from each other as well.”

The Neighbourhoods of Bridgwater’s architectural guidelines draw attention to traditional themes such as Colonial Revival, Georgian Revival, Cape Cod, Victorian, Arts and Crafts and Country. Many homes feature wide doorways, front porches and tucked-away garages. Houses similar in appearance are carefully separated to create streets bursting with charm and variety.

“The housing styles in Bridgwater represent an intrinsic part of Winnipeg’s urban fabric and history,” says Rewniak. “The main goal of the neighbourhood is to evoke meaningful and convincing harmony of traditional reenactment and nostalgia.”

Half of the homes in Bridgwater Lakes and Trails are visitable, meaning they have no-step entries, wide doorways, spacious main floor bathrooms and generous hallways. Visitable homes provide easy access for everyone, especially those with mobility issues or families with young children.

A community to be explored

Once visitors have seen the show homes available, they should take some time to explore the community itself. Bridgwater is set within acres of green space with more mature forests and walking trails than any of Winnipeg’s other new subdivisions.

“The fountain features in each of the neighbourhoods are stunning,” says Rewniak. He suggested visitors should also check out the businesses that have opened in Bridgwater Centre, and those that are under construction that will open later in 2017.
